About Jefferson

Jefferson began as a single hospital in 1825, and in 1877 it became one of the first teaching hospitals in the nation. And while our distinguished history is the bedrock of our reputation, it is our unwavering focus on the future that makes us stand out.  In 2019 Sidney Kimmel Medical College launched the Department of Integrative Medicine and Nutritional Sciences, the first department of its kind at an academic medical school. Our fellowship in Integrated Medicine is one of the nearly 950 fellowships and residencies at Jefferson.

About the Marcus Institute

The Marcus Institute of Integrative Health, Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, includes two full-service clinics for medical consultations, a unique pharmacy-certified micronutrient infusion center; a wellness center specializing in fitness and mindfulness programs; a state-of-the-art imaging facility that includes MRI, fMRI, and PET imaging. The Marcus Institute sees a wide range of patients and offers chronic illness care, preventive medicine, and numerous wellness services. Our physicians are credentialed by Jefferson and they have advanced integrative medicine training in a wide range of approaches, including functional medicine, mind-body therapies, nutritional therapies and natural remedies, body work. The Marcus Institute has one of the largest Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs in the country and a robust research program with seven active clinical trials and multiple ongoing research projects.

Meet Our Fellows

Katie Allport, DO
Integrative Medicine Fellow, 2024-2025

Dr. Katie Allport is a family medicine trained physician from Lancaster, PA. She received a Bachelor of Science degree at Villanova University. Following college, she participated in an AmeriCorps program in Lancaster, where she volunteered as a doula and supported women during childbirth. She became a DO at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2015 and completed family medicine residency at Lancaster General Hospital in 2018. She then worked as a staff physician for Lancaster General Medical Group at Mount Joy Family Medicine for nearly six years. She received a certificate in Lifestyle Medicine in 2022, which led to a focus in guiding patients toward the optimization of sleep, nutrition, mental health, and exercise. Dr. Allport strongly believes in a holistic approach to patient care.

Dr. Allport has had numerous hands-on experiences with integrative medicine, including an immersion in Tucson, Arizona where she learned from Dr. Andrew Weil, and a concentrated elective at Lancaster General Hospital while in residency. Dr. Allport is also a 200-hour certified yoga instructor! She is thrilled to return to Philadelphia to be a part of the Marcus Institute, and excited to further learn how to help people live their best lives.

Lauren Musser, MD
Integrative Medicine Fellow, 2024-2025

Dr. Lauren Musser was introduced to integrative medicine during medical school on an elective course in Grenada. She realized how integrative approaches to medicine and concerted care of the body and mind can yield a more resilient being. Dr. Musser completed her medical school at St. George’s University and went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital and the Lankenau Medical Center. Dr. Musser has been working as a primary care physician for the last three years, and her focus has been trying to incorporate more integrative medicine into her practice. Seeing the results of these practices has been an incredibly rewarding experience for her, and she is eager to learn even more about integrative medicine here at the Marcus Institute.

In her free time, Dr. Musser loves to run, workout, and spend time with her family and dog.
